Colleges of Law Alumni Success Story

The Santa Barbara and Ventura Colleges of Law continuously grooms students for successful careers in the legal field. One alumna, Kata Kim, says she knew she wanted to be a lawyer since she was a teenager, and as soon as she step foot on Colleges of Law Ventura Campus for a tour, she decided it was where she wanted to attend law school. Her time at COL helped shape her path in health care law, which has become her life’s passion. She enjoys a rewarding career, and attributes much of her success to the teachers, mentors, and professional connections she made during her time at COL.

Experiential Learning: Directed Study

At the colleges of law students have the opportunity to participate in many forms of experiential learning outside the traditional classroom. The Directed Study program allows students to earn academic credit for completing in depth legal research and writing projects with the guidance of a faculty member.

Some students post their articles for potential submission to legal journals or law reviews, while others construct deliverables which explain certain legal principles to lay audiences. Additionally, some students create legal research pathfinders for specific areas of law like Civil Rights Law.

The Directed Study program is a great way for students to gain hands on experience in the legal field, while building their resumes for the future.

On December 3, 2016 from 9:00 AM- 10:30 AM come join the Colleges of Law, Ventura campus for a presentation from Dean Jackie Gardina as she discusses the Juris Doctor program and sheds light on the unique educational philosophies which set Colleges of Law apart as an accredited, affordable law school.
